Plague in Peru

Northern Peru (La Libertad, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, Piura) holds the most active plague foci in South America. Peru had 1,248 cases in 1992-1994 and 74 in 2010-2018, but submitted no data to WHO for 2019-2025.

No 2026 human plague reports found. A suspected case in Paijan, La Libertad, that still circulates online dates from 2023 and was ruled out as H1N1.
