Who we are
PlagueIntel is edited by Thomas Kraaibeek, a software developer in Münster who runs the sister projects EbolaIntel and Hantaflow. It was built on 5 October 2026, after the suspected pneumonic plague death in Irkutsk, because the information online was split between unverified Telegram claims, official denials and context-free headlines.
PlagueIntel is not a health authority and has no medical credentials. It compiles, compares and cites what health agencies, scientists and journalists publish.
Editorial policy
- Every number has a source. If we cannot trace it to a primary source, a peer-reviewed paper or a named outlet, it does not go on the site, or it is marked unverified.
- Official and reported stay separate. A claim is "official" only when the competent authority said it on the record. However many outlets repeat a report, it stays "reported" until confirmed.
- Disputes are shown, not resolved by us. When an authority and the press disagree, we show both and say which is which.
- No panic mechanics. No live death counters, no countdowns to doom, no sensational headlines.
- People are not content. We describe the deceased in Irkutsk by role, not by name.
- Corrections are public. Every correction is listed in the update log.
Funding
Self-funded. No advertising, no sponsored content, no affiliate links. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed here first.
